Planting Instructions
  1. Timing: Best sown in late summer to early autumn. Spring sowings are prone to premature bolting (going to seed) due to rising temperatures.
  2. Method: Direct sowing into the final garden bed is highly recommended to prevent transplant shock, which also triggers bolting. Sow 3–4 seeds in small clusters at the recommended spacing.
  3. Soil & Position: Plant in fertile, well-draining soil enriched with compost or organic manure. Choose a position that gets full sun to partial shade.
  4. Thinning: Once seedlings reach about 2.5cm (1 inch) tall, thin out the clusters, leaving only the single strongest seedling in each spot.
  5. Care: Keep the soil consistently moist. Dry conditions will cause the cabbage leaves to become fibrous and bitter. Use fine mesh netting to protect the young crop from slugs, snails, and caterpillars.
