Water Pump Hose Outlet 6" 50M

A 6-inch (150 mm) diameter, 50-meter (164 feet) water pump outlet hose is a heavy-duty, high-capacity discharge line designed for high-volume water transfer. Most commonly sold as a PVC lay-flat hose, this equipment collapses flat and rolls up tightly for compact storage when not pressurized. It is built to handle massive flow rates from industrial, agricultural, or emergency trash pumps used in flood control, mining, and field irrigation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Can this 6" hose be used on the intake (suction) side of the pump?

  • No. You must never use a lay-flat hose on the suction side.
  • The vacuum created by the pump intake will instantly collapse the hose and choke off water flow.
  • Always use a rigid, corrugated, or wire-reinforced suction hose for the pump inlet.

2. What types of fittings are best for a 6" 50M hose?

  • Camlock fittings (quick-disconnect couplers) are highly recommended for fast setups.
  • Pin-lug shank couplings work well for semi-permanent or lower-frequency connections.
  • Ensure you use heavy-duty T-bolt clamps rather than standard worm-gear clamps to prevent the fittings from blowing off under pressure.

3. How do I calculate the weight of a 50-meter hose?

  • A standard 50-foot (15-meter) section of 6" PVC lay-flat hose weighs roughly 52 lbs (23.5 kg) empty.
  • A full 50-meter roll weighs approximately 170 lbs (77 kg) without fittings.
  • When completely filled with water, a 50-meter stretch holds about 900 liters (238 gallons) of water, adding an extra 2,000 lbs (900 kg) of weight.

4. Can I drive vehicles over the hose while it is operating?

  • No, driving directly over a pressurized PVC lay-flat hose can cause it to burst instantly.
  • The sudden pressure spike from a tire can rupture the inner polyester reinforcement.
  • Always utilize a dedicated rubber hose ramp or dig a shallow trench if vehicles must cross its path.

5. Is a 6" PVC discharge hose safe for drinking water?

  • No. Standard blue or red PVC lay-flat hoses are explicitly rated for non-potable water transfer only.
  • They contain chemical plasticizers that can leach into fluid.
  • For drinking water, search specifically for an NSF/ANSI 61 certified polyurethane (TPU) lay-flat hose.

6. How should I clean and store the hose after use?

  • Drain completely: Lay the hose on a slight incline to let all remaining water run out.
  • Clean off debris: Wash off mud, mildew, and dirt with fresh water to preserve the outer PVC shell.
  • Dry thoroughly: Never roll up a wet hose, as trapped moisture promotes mold and degrades the material.
  • Store away from sunlight: Keep the rolled hose in a cool, dark shed or container, because prolonged UV exposure makes PVC brittle over time.
